s. XIX Bernardel Pére double bass

The instrument is atributted to Auguste Sebastien Philippe Bernardel, “ Bernardel Père” (1798-1870). Originally 3-string bass. Very nice example in excellent conditions of one of the best French makers of his period.

His basses are very fine, good outline, well cut soundholes and the body being well proportioned. Varnish is dark Brown with a good lustre. Instruments have swell back. He was known as “Bernardel Père”. LOOKING AT THE DOUBLE BASS by Raymond Elgar.
